A steering wheel can become too hot to hold comfortably. Seat-belt buckles need to be touched with care, shaded parking becomes a minor victory, and residents learn that errands have seasons of their own. Phoenix’s normal high around July 4 is 107 degrees, with an average low of 83, meaning the city often carries yesterday’s warmth into the next morning. Unlike humid destinations, perspiration may vanish quickly, creating the misleading impression that the body is coping well. It may not be. The city offers plenty to do indoors, including museums, restaurants, galleries, and resort pools, while sunrise visits to desert gardens or mountain viewpoints preserve the outdoor part of the vacation.
