#29: It’s Not A Glow-Up
A common side effect of depression, grief, and other unstable mental states is weight loss. It’s extremely problematic that people will think that this is a positive thing; that even though you are suffering and just lost people close to you, at least you also lost some weight. We really are living in a dystopian time!
Being congratulated because you are not eating and therefore looking extremely thin can definitely lead people to develop eating disorders. We need to stop normalizing extreme weight-loss practices; we are not only reinforcing the idea that we must suffer in order to get the ”perfect body,” but we are also deliberately encouraging people not to eat.
