#5: Murray Goldberg in The Goldbergs (2013)
Jeff Garlin’s departure from The Goldbergs was one of the strangest in recent memory. Following investigations into his on-set behavior, Garlin left midway through season nine. But his character, Murray, remained. For the rest of the season, the show used stand-ins and CGI to create the illusion that Murray was still there. Before season ten began, the writers finally killed the character off-screen. The new season opened with a time jump, explaining that Murray had passed away unexpectedly. The family, especially his wife Beverly, spent the final season navigating life without him.
