#15: Carnivàle (2003-2005)
Carnivàle was conceived as a multi-part saga about supernatural forces moving through Depression-era America. HBO canceled it after two seasons because its large audience was not large enough to justify the show’s considerable cost. The final episode resolved one confrontation while opening greater conflicts, effectively ending only the first section of the planned story. Its mythology, visual detail, and eerie patience later earned cult devotion, but the cosmic battle never reached its promised conclusion onscreen.
