My So-Called Life lasted only nineteen episodes, yet Angela Chase’s voice helped redefine television adolescence. ABC canceled the drama after one season, leaving Angela’s relationships with Jordan Catalano, Brian Krakow, and her family unresolved. Claire Danes became a star, while the series acquired a devoted following through reruns. Its cancellation still feels fittingly painful: viewers were abandoned at the moment they had become emotionally invested, which is practically the most teenage experience television could provide.
