Past Your Prime
Sometimes you come to terms with your age. You remind yourself that you still have good years ahead of you, that many great people didn’t reach their full potential until later in life. You reach a Zen state about it. And then something like this comes along to ruin it.
There’s no quicker way to feel bad about your age than to be reminded that in many fields, you’re ancient. You could never make it now in sports—everyone who’s doing well there is a spring chicken, and you’re far too old and feeble. Well, you’ll get the last laugh. Those young athletes may get the money, the fame and the glory right now, but someday they’ll get old, just like you.
