#31: William Howard Taft
The first United States president to ever hold the positions of president and chief justice in the history of the United States was the 27th president, William Howard Taft. Having served his presidency between 1909-1913, he later continued to become the tenth chief justice from 1921-1930.
We’re not saying that he was the biggest party animal of all time, but Taft was inducted into the Bourbon Hall of Fame for legally defining whiskey as we know and love it today. He wasn’t such a fan of alcohol, but his role in making a legal ruling on whiskey definitions changed the path of history as we know it.
