#14: The Maze Prison Escape — 1983
Thirty-eight Provisional IRA prisoners escaped from HMP Maze in Northern Ireland on September 25, 1983, in the largest prison escape in British history. Prisoners obtained smuggled firearms, seized control of a cell block, took officers hostage, and hijacked a food-delivery truck. They then attempted to drive through security gates. One prison officer died during the breakout. Ten escapees were recaptured almost immediately, but others remained free for years. The operation had been planned with military-level coordination.
