#20: Juliane Koepcke Falls From the Sky — 1971
Seventeen-year-old Juliane Koepcke survived when LANSA Flight 508 broke apart during a thunderstorm over the Peruvian Amazon. Still strapped into a row of seats, she fell thousands of feet into rainforest canopy and somehow lived. Injured and alone, Koepcke followed waterways through the jungle for eleven days, remembering survival advice from her biologist parents. She eventually found a shelter used by local workers, who rescued her. Technically this was not a prison escape—just an escape from almost certain death.
