#4: El Chapo’s Motorcycle Tunnel — 2015
Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán escaped Mexico’s maximum-security Altiplano prison through a hole beneath the shower in his cell. The opening led to an elaborately engineered tunnel stretching roughly a mile, equipped with lighting, ventilation, and a modified motorcycle running on rails. Someone had apparently tunneled to the precise location beneath his bathroom. Guzmán disappeared before guards understood what had happened. He was recaptured months later, but the engineering behind the breakout became instantly infamous.
