Droppings from Caribous!
In these ice patches, animal excrement is one of the more common findings. Despite its unappealing appearance, the animal waste contains a wealth of information about the animal’s life and habits. To put it another way, this tells us a lot about the animal’s life at the time. For example, you can learn if the animal was a herbivore or a carnivore.
Caribou droppings, for example, can tell us a lot about what the animal ate, where it ate it, and where it got the food it was eating. For example, if the animal’s food source was far away, we can infer that it had a grazing territory that stretched for however far the animal traveled. We can, however, learn about things other than the animal itself in some cases.
