A Mummy of a Dinosaur
We find a lot more than just woolly mammoths and tigers lurking on the ice. Instead, these other discoveries reveal information about a different area of biology. For the first time, we’ve discovered an ancient ice-age animal’s method of self-defence. To put the 110 million-year-old nodosaur right in the middle of the Cretaceous period, scientists found and dated a fossil of it.
During this period of ferocious predation, animals had to devise extensive defense mechanisms in order to survive. On the other hand, the nodosaur was forced to develop spikes and armor. The nodosaur thus doubled down on its defense mechanisms and was thus presumably able to get itself out of trouble when faced with danger.
