#11: Sam Breadon Operated a Pool Hall Before Becoming an Owner
Before later owning the St. Louis Cardinals, Sam Breadon briefly played professional baseball. During his playing days in the late nineteenth century, he supplemented his income by running a billiard hall. The business proved more profitable than baseball and eventually helped launch his successful career as an executive.
