#14: Cane Corsos Require Leadership More Than Harsh Discipline
The Cane Corso descends from ancient Roman working dogs and has traditionally served as both a livestock guardian and family protector. Their natural confidence and watchful nature make them excellent guardians, but those same traits require experienced ownership. Early exposure to different environments, visitors, and animals allows them to develop balanced decision-making rather than excessive suspicion. Positive, consistent leadership is far more effective than punishment when training this breed. Cane Corsos are deeply devoted to their families and usually remain calm unless they perceive a genuine threat. Their reputation reflects their protective instincts more than any inherent desire for aggression.
