#19: The Lusitania Preserved Valuable Cargo From World War I
The British liner RMS Lusitania was torpedoed by a German submarine in 1915 during World War I. Along with passengers and mail, the ship carried valuable cargo that included gold coins, precious metals, and luxury goods. Salvage operations have recovered some items, but much of the wreck remains underwater.
