Don’t Pick Me
Do you remember those moments in school when the teacher called on you to answer a question about a book you haven’t read? Yeah, we’ve all been there. But if You think about it from their perspective, it’s totally understandable. This painting is called “The Execution of Torrijos and his Companions on the Beach at Málaga” by Antonio Gisbert Pérez. It’s Spanish and considered one of the best paintings from the 19th century.
Although you cannot see it in the painting, men are lying dead across the beach. This scene was based on an event that occurred in 1831 when Torrijos and his friends were executed without trial. The expressions on the faces of those in the painting are not precisely accurate, but they are based on accounts of people who witnessed the event.
