Just Say It!
We should all take Jack Nicholson’s advice and “handle the truth” more often, as he said in A Few Good Men. He was right–as always. We shouldn’t listen to him only sometimes, like when he’s chasing people with an ax. The woman depicted below is “The Weeping Woman,” a 1644 oil on canvas by Rembrandt.
She’s also been linked to the works of other artists – particularly Vermeer – and is thought to be one of his pupils. Although Rembrandt wasn’t his original name, it was derived from Rembrandt Herman Leyden. I suppose signing paintings was more straightforward with the shift? It’s a lot easier to remember!
