Giant Monopoly board under the old carpet
When the first Monopoly board was published in 1906, it didn’t look like the one you can buy today. In fact, the name was different as well. As a “practical illustration of the present land-grabbing process with all its typical outcomes and consequences,” the game was created.
Elizabeth Magie was the creator of this game. The young woman’s name was Elizabeth Magie. A book by a left-wing economist named Henry George provided inspiration. Now, imagine playing Monopoly on this board. Isn’t it funny? Dali would have a lot of fun with it!
