Phrenologist
The pseudoscience of phrenology involved attempting to assess a person’s character traits and mental states or illnesses by examining the bumps and grooves on his or her skull. This was an abstract psychological concept, but it was once considered a genuine and skilled science.
Although phrenologists were considered cutting-edge and forward of the curve in their time, this procedure has been largely debunked and is now considered a pseudoscience. It was prohibited soon after and fell out of usage by 1967.
