Linotype Operators
With the internet at our fingertips, stories migrate quickly and freely, spreading like wildfire. Things were very different back in the 1960s. Newspaper articles had to be etched by “Linotype Operators,” who pressed them one by one onto the newspaper with a metal typesetter before they could be shared.
The publication of news was a significant problem in pre-phototypesetting days. This was a time-consuming and laborious task, but it was the only way to get the news out there. When phototypesetting technology became popular, this job began to vanish.
