Kentucky – Henry Clay’s Portrait
Henry Clay was one of the most well-known politicians of his era, paving the road to the devastating Civil War. Despite previously working with the legal system, he was drawn to the political arena later in life, becoming known for expediting a few trade-offs on issues such as state’s rights and slavery.
In 1812, he was one of the most prominent people to be chosen in the conflict between the United States and Great Britain. This photograph of him was taken shortly before his death but barely shows his face.
