Louisiana – University Of Louisiana’s First President
The University of Louisiana’s first President, Franklin Lister Hawks, had a poor reputation. He worked in many industries before becoming the (now Tulane University) president of the institution. He was an author, historian, and professor, but his most notorious job was, without a doubt, as a well-known preacher in his community, during which time he was linked to several sex scandals.
He was a celebrity for years and appeared on many newspaper covers. This photograph of him was taken around 1847, shortly before he enrolled at the University.
