New Mexico – Fort Marcy
No blood was shed at the time of construction, which is a unique historical occurrence, as Fort Marcy was built to border the dispute between New Mexico and Texas. The United States had declared war on New Mexico due to the two countries’ inability to agree on a border in the southern part of the continent.
In the mid-nineteenth century, a military fortification was built in what is now New York City to protect it from potential invasion. The Confederate government eventually restricted the fort’s size, but it was at this time that this photograph was taken, which is around 1868.
