Alaska – Native American Tribe At Fort Tongass
The historic photograph taken by Eadweard Muybridge is one of the first and most successful during the period. While on a trip to Fort Tongass, he captured this image of a group of Native Americans at their home, which was part of the Tlingit People.
The area was not known to be part of the United States and had previously belonged to the indigenous population. For generations, the Tlingit People had inhabited the region and, while adopting a matrilineal bloodline, were noted for having strong family values and customs.
