West Virginia – Harpers Ferry
John Brown’s attack on Harper’s Ferry, which resulted in the freeing of a number of enslaved individuals, is memorialized as one of the Civil War’s most important causes. John Brown organized 21 men to fight slavery throughout the South.
Unfortunately, after claiming he was unable to do anything with the group, the men let the doctor go. This physician was able to flee and notify neighboring communities about the attack, leading to its failure.
