Arizona – Ecological Expeditions
The Ecological Expeditions was the most popular event in Arizona throughout the 1880s. On photographs of an expedition trip through Colorado from Camp Mojave, Arizona, dated September 1871, Timothy H. O’Sullivan, a New Yorker who was staying at Camp Mojave at the time, took the picture.
The customers who went on the journey planned to travel from one bank of the Colorado River to the other. The photographer captured a moment in time when the formerly meandering Colorado River appeared very different from what it looks like today, particularly after being dammed by settlers in the region.
