1975 was a year that reflected a changing world. The Vietnam War had officially ended after the fall of Saigon, bringing one of the defining conflicts of the 20th century to a close. Likewise, the Cold War kept influencing on international relations as countries such as Angola and Mozambique experienced major political changes after gaining independence. At home, people embraced new sounds, fashion trends, TV shows, and everyday technologies that shaped the decade. #1: First Lady Betty Ford Shares a Dance in China

During an official trip to China in December 1975 with President Gerald Ford, First Lady Betty Ford joined students at the Beijing Dance School for a spontaneous dance. Before her life in politics, Mrs. Ford trained as a modern dancer under famous choreographer Martha Graham. She kicked off her shoes and dropped formal royal protocol to connect directly with young Chinese dancers through a shared love of movement.
