The isolated motel, the looming house, the vulnerable traveler, the shadowy killer, the blade, the sudden attack, the wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time victim: Psycho gave later horror filmmakers a whole visual grammar kit. It was not yet the slasher film as the 1970s and 1980s would define it, but the foundations are everywhere. The geography alone feels archetypal. There is the office, the road, the motel, the house on the hill, and the basement where truth waits.
