People would spend their whole careers at one job, and they’d get pensions that were good enough to retire on in comfort. Think of retiring at 60 with, I dont know, a boat… Back then, careers were built on this mutual commitment, but the switch to 401(k) plans changed that promise. Today, hopping jobs every couple of years is considered smart, not scary.
