#20: The calm eye means the hurricane is finished
Few weather experiences can be more deceptive. After hours of violent wind and rain, the sky may brighten, the wind may drop, and an almost peaceful stillness can arrive. People unfamiliar with hurricanes have historically stepped outside believing the storm had passed. In reality, the eye is the calm center of the cyclone, surrounded by the eyewall where the most dangerous winds and intense thunderstorms are found. Once the eye moves over, the opposite side of that eyewall follows, and damaging winds can return abruptly from a different direction.
