The wedding of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum to Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum is considered to be one of the most lavish in the annals of human history. The extravagant wedding ended up costing a total of 137 million dollars. In 1979, the King of Dubai needed to find a massive location elsewhere in order to host the wedding of one of his relatives. A stadium hall was built from the ground up specifically for the purpose of hosting the couple’s twenty thousand guests at their wedding. People traveled from all around the United States to celebrate the couple’s wedding.
A significant number of people traveled to Dubai in order to take part in the celebrations there, or else they were entertained by the Sheikh,
who rode his horse to each village and distributed food to the locals there. In recognition of the occasion, there was a five-day holiday. Throughout the day, local musicians and dancers provided entertainment for the audience. The Sheikh’s Royal Guard included riders on horseback as well as riders on camels during their march. During the course of the wedding ceremony, the Sheikh bestowed his wife with presents that were carried on a total of 20 decorated camels.
