#18: “I Only Want to Be with You” by Dusty Springfield – The Tourists (1980)
Dusty Springfield released “I Only Want to Be with You” in 1963, and it reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Tourists recorded their version in 1979, gaining traction in 1980 and reaching No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart. Featuring Annie Lennox on vocals, the track used a tighter rhythm section and a more modern arrangement. It became one of the band’s best-known songs before Lennox and Dave Stewart formed Eurythmics.
