Empathy is Key
As we’ve seen in previous stories, sometimes bullying is simply the product of a difficult upbringing and lack of emotional support. While nowadays there are many more initiatives to prevent bullying, I doubt a lot of them focus on assisting the person who practices the bullying; as these are often focused on the victims.
But it’s important to remember both sides are victims in these scenarios, there is suffering in either side. Studies found that school-based bullying prevention programs decrease bullying by up to 25%, but such programs are mainly focusing on assisting the bullied side rather than understanding why the bully is behaving in aggressive ways.
