Cargo Door Issues Afflicted the Douglas DC-10
When it comes to planes, you want something with a safety rating that shows it isn’t prone to accidents. That wasn’t the case with the DC-10. The jet is currently regarded as one of the worst ever built, with 55 accidents and several fatalities under its belt.
The plane’s major flaw is that its cargo doors open in the opposite manner that other planes do, outwards. One of the DC-10s opened its cargo doors mid-flight in 1972 as a result of this. If that wasn’t terrible enough, one of the plane’s engines fell off its wings during a takeoff in 1979. Fortunately, the plane has undergone several redesigns since the 1970s, making it safer.
The approaching plane had a new and futuristic appearance, but it had one flaw: it couldn’t fly.
