Albacore Has Not Been Forgotten
A plane might be disliked for a variety of reasons. You can know it’s not going to last long when its predecessor is chosen above it, even though it’s supposed to be an enhancement from the older model.
The Albacore, designed by Fairey Aviation during WWII to replace the Swordfish, was not well received by pilots. They saw no difficulty with continuing to fly the older aircraft, and most pilots would actually request it during the conflict. The Albacore, a torpedo bomber, could not even make it to the end of the war and was withdrawn in 1943. The Swordfish, which came before the Albacore, had a longer life span.
Soon, we’ll hear about yet another failed Fairey.
