The ATR 72
American Eagle Airlines operated a fleet of ATR 72 planes, which were panned by reviewers. Contributor Alex Murel of Jalopnik magazine advised readers to avoid flying if possible, calling it “massively antiquated.” Murel also lamented in his piece that the fleet was “beginning to break apart.”
Murel’s main concern was his safety. “Eleven of the 508 planes built were destroyed in crashes that killed over 190 people,” he stated. Although this isn’t a good track record, some planes are still in service with other carriers today.
