#1: The Zipper Arrives at the 1893 Chicago Fair
The zipper’s debut at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition was modest and initially met with skepticism. Early versions were called “clasp lockers” and were seen as a novelty rather than a necessity. It took decades of refinement before the zipper became reliable enough for widespread clothing use. Still, that first introduction marked the beginning of one of the most convenient fasteners ever created.
