Some things in life are just too good to deviate. Even though our tastes as a society have fluctuated drastically over the last 70 years, it would seem that our taste for movie theater concessions has stayed relatively consistent–with a few surprising exceptions! And even though it can’t really come as too much of a spoiler alert that popcorn was and still is a Cinefile’s favorite (it made this list three times, in three different forms), there are a few treats featured here that have most definitely fallen out of fashion. Which snacks were your childhood favorites when you would go to the movies?
#1: Popcorn
If this article had ranked the consistently most popular movie theater concessions over the years, popcorn would undoubtedly have sealed its title (with soda coming in closely behind). Popcorn’s dominance began as early as the 1930s and 40s when popcorn vendors would set up shop outside of movie theaters. It was cheap, delicious, and easy to consume during the dark and quiet of the movies, officially becoming the go-to cinema snack once the 1950s had gotten underway.
