
When we borrow something from a friend, roommate, coworker, or family member, we do so with the best of intentions. We fully intend to return the item in good condition and in a timely manner, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. You still want to give the object back to them, but now too much time has passed, or you don’t see the person as often as you used to. Now it is just awkward. Your friend raved about the latest bestseller and graciously offered to let you borrow it when she finished reading it. But honestly, this isn’t your genre. You tried, but you just couldn’t get into the storyline and you couldn’t relate to the characters. You’ve had the book for several months now … plenty of time to read it.
