Quentin Tarantino vs. Police Unions
Quentin Tarantino, a supporter of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, took a stand against police brutality in 2015 and joined protests. In turn, police unions around the country boycotted the director’s theatrical release at the time, “The Hateful Eight.” Members of these police unions threatened a “surprise” for Tarantino which vaguely hinted at a greater worry.
This, of course, led to online discourse about another film that was boycotted and threatened a little before – The Interview, which was not given a theatrical release due to nuclear threats from North Korea. This beef became overarching beef between filmmakers that make controversial work and also support movements that protect human rights.
