The Final Ruling and the Financial Burden
On June 1st of, 2022, the world was waiting patiently to hear what the final verdict would be in the case of Depp v. Heard. The jury found that Amber Heard had, in fact, intentionally defamed Depp in her 2018 Op-Ed piece about her ex-husband in the Washington Post.
As if that wasn’t enough, the jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensation for damages to his career as a result of the piece. But in December 2023, Heard settled $1 million with Depp instead. However, Heard’s counterclaim of defamation wasn’t proven adequately enough by her lawyers, the jurors claimed, awarding her only $2 million in compensation for the damages to her career.
