I remember when The Sims first came out. It really does make no sense to think about; a simulation that is all about having a mini version of just a normal, modern life. Maybe the real fantasy was in being able to own an actually nice, large house in a nice neighborhood.
Who knew that micromanaging the lives of digital people—making them cook, clean, and socialize—could become an addictive pastime? It wasn’t just about playing house; it was about playing life, complete with all its ups and downs, but without the real-world consequences.
