#21: View-Masters
View-Masters, iconic toys from the latter half of the 20th century, were originally sold for $15-$30. Now, they are valued between $50-$100. Invented by William Gruber and marketed under Mattel, these devices debuted in 1939, captivating users with their ability to display 3D images. They were available at popular retailers like Sawyer’s, Toys R Us, Macy’s, Walmart, and various toy stores.
The 1970s saw the introduction of the Talking View-Master, which combined traditional 3D reels with audio features. These advanced versions, together with the expensive View-Master Rear Screen Projector, elevated the classic toy to new heights of sophistication. Today, vintage View-Masters can fetch between $50 to $100, a testament to their enduring appeal and the nostalgia they evoke.
