Al-Khazneh, Jordan
The literal translation of Al-Khazneh is ‘treasure,’ and there could never be a more fitting name. Similar to the Holy Trench, this temple is also hewn into sandstone mountains, likely constructed around the 1st century AD. The belief that the monastery contained treasures contributes to its name.
On the other hand, numerous beliefs surround this structure. Some consider it to be the mausoleum of the Nabatean King Aretas IV, while others speculate that a Pharaoh concealed their treasure here before pursuing Moses. None of these theories has been conclusively confirmed. Nevertheless, tourists gather around this temple to marvel at its ancient architecture.
