The Iron Lung
Not to be confused with the torturous Iron Maidan of Medieval times, the Iron Lung was a machine invented by Dr. Philip Drinker and Dr. Louise Shaw in 1928, to treat the most severely affected polio sufferers…or at least, keep them alive. It did this by effectively doing the breathing for the paralysed patients.
