#43: The Nutcracker
Do you have oddly-specific memories from childhood that are unexplainable but universal? If you’re a member of Gen X, this picture will probably unlock one of those types of memories. Who else remembers having a bowl of nuts and old-fashioned nutcrackers on their coffee table? If your parents didn’t have one, your grandparents probably did.
There’s no rhyme or reason to the nut bowl. It simply existed in living rooms across the country. Somehow, some way, parents and grandparents everywhere knew they simply had to have these healthy snacks installed on the coffee table at all times. They might have been onto something. It’s weirdly satisfying to work for your snack while sitting on the couch. Plus, nuts are way healthier than candy and popcorn.
