#40: The Root of My Problems
Aqua Net was one of the most popular hairstyling secrets in the 80s. When you sprayed that stuff, it made you feel about as high as your hair. Back then, nobody gave a second thought to inhaling those sweet-smelling fumes. But it was kind of a big deal. People aren’t joking when they say all that hairspray from the 80s burned a hole in the ozone!
Hairspray back in the 80s used CFCs as a propellant. CFCs are notorious for depleting the ozone layer of our planet and causing various negative health effects, such as chronic coughing and bronchial constriction. In classic Gen X fashion, the only way to cope with these revelations is to joke about it. Sure, we might have problems thanks to Aqua Net, but at least our hair looked amazing!
