22 Forgotten Fast Food Favorites Fans Want Back

April 10, 2025 by Natalie Rubinfeld

Fast food chains seem to be constantly marketing new products, looking for that next big mega-hit, inspiring drive-through lines that wrap around the block. And sometimes, this success is totally attainable (just look at the Big Mac, which debuted more than twelve years after the now billion-dollar franchise first opened its doors.) Other times, however, despite all that fancy advertising, a product simply flops. We’re looking at 22 of the most beloved fast food favorites with short lifespans and why their rise was so quickly met by their fall!

#1: McDonald’s Onion Nuggets (1970s)

Before the iconic Chicken McNuggets hit the scene in the 1980s, McDonald’s tested Onion Nuggets. Bute-sized and battered, these deep-fried onions were marketed as a side dish or a tasty snack. Unfortunately for MickyD’s, the item failed to gain a wide audience. Even though they didn’t stay on the menu for very long, Onion Nuggets helped to pave the way for more nugget-shaped offerings.
