Here’s the thing. Sometimes, well, quite often, artists’ ego arises and makes them paint themselves in their own paintings. We know that sounds a bit weird, but it’s true. And here we bring a great example. The face of the bearded man you see below is Michelangelo’s.
In addition, Michelangelo’s self-portrait occurs in the form of flayed skin. Freaky, right? Among the many figures painted in the Sistine Chapel is Saint Bartholomew, who was flayed alive. Here, the saint is holding his own skin, which can be interpreted as the artist’s melancholy.
