#2: Home Improvement
From 1991 to 1999, Tim Allen’s Home Improvement was one of the most popular (and highest-rated) sitcoms on television. Featuring the antics of Tim “The Toolman” Taylor played by Allen, this comedy was a staple in many households across the country (including my own).
Yet, those antics tended to have something in common, which was hyper-masculinity and traditional gender roles. Tim didn’t often show a lot of interest in his wife, Jill, and frequently complained about her nagging him. There are also a lot of fat and borderline homophobic jokes often posed at Tim’s TV show cohost Al.
